A Notorious Return Awaits at UFC 329
One of the UFC’s most notorious figures will make a long-awaited return to the octagon against one of its most fearsome fighters on Saturday night.
Five years after he last appeared, former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor will take on former featherweight champion Max Holloway in a welterweight-division bout, 13 years on from their first collision.
After a half-decade spent acting, in and out of courts, and a brief foray into politics, McGregor, unsurprisingly, will enter Saturday night as a +190 underdog. Holloway, whose eight fights since McGregor's last bout include one of the most iconic knockouts in UFC history and a 5-3 record, will enter as a -230 favourite despite a decision loss to Charles Oliveira in his last fight.
Between Holloway's fearsome track record and the uncertainty around McGregor's cardio at this stage, UFC oddsmakers are expecting a flash-bulb finish regardless. The two most likely methods of victory are Holloway by KO/TKO/DQ (-115) and McGregor by the same (+255), with Holloway by decision a distant third at +575.
To help lead into the main event, there’s a lightweight bout between Paddy Pimblett and Benoit Saint Denis. Pimblett, whose seven-fight win streak to start his UFC career ended in January's interim lightweight championship bout against Justin Gaethje, finds himself as a +125 underdog.
Saint Denis, who's yet to have a title shot, is a -155 favourite as he enters on a four-fight win streak, having most recently stopped veteran Dan Hooker in the second round at UFC 325.
While there's intrigue across both the prelim and main cards, with fights including Cory Sandhagen and Robert Whittaker, all eyes are on McGregor ahead of the much-anticipated return. After five long years away, the wait is nearly over.
