Moneyline bets

A moneyline bet means you are betting on which team will win the game. The team that is expected to win will have a minus before the odds (-250), this team is referred to as the “favourite”. The team who is less likely to win would be the “underdog” and they would have a plus before the odds (+220).

For example, if the Leafs are the “favourite” against the Senators with a -250 line, this means you would need to risk $250 to profit $100. In this case the Senators would be a +220 “Underdog” meaning a $100 bet on the senators would profit $220

Betting Against the spread

Spreads are created to calculate an equal expectation from the two teams. The point spread is betting on the margin of victory by a team. The favourite “gives” points, and the underdog “gets” points.

For example, let us say the Pittsburgh Steelers are 10.5-point favourites over the Baltimore Ravens, it would look like: Pittsburgh (-10.5) vs Baltimore (+10.5)

If you bet on Pittsburgh -10.5, they would need to win by 11 or MORE points to “COVER” the spread

For the Ravens +10.5 they need to win or lose by 10 points or LESS to “COVER” the spread

How to Read Odds

American odds - You are looking at a number with a plus (+) or minus (-) in front of it

Below are examples of how to further understand American Odds

-165 ($165 wager to return $100 profit)

+500 ($100 wager to profit $500)

Decimal odds - You are looking at a number with 2 decimal points

To calculate your TOTAL RETURN (including initial wager) you would multiply your wager amount by the decimal shown.

Example:

1.90 ($100 wager x 1.90 odds = $190 return)

2.75 ($100 wager x 2.75 odds = $270.50 return)

Fractional odds - This betting type is very common in horse racing

The best way to calculate your return from these odds would be to assume your betting amount is the number on the bottom of the fraction, in this case your PROFIT would be the number on the top

Example:

9/10 ($100 wager to profit $90)

10/1 ($100 wager to profit $1000)

If you bet on the Toronto Raptors (-3) and they win by exactly 3 points, this would be classified as a push and your initial wager amount would be refunded

  • Futures Bets

A futures bet is a bet based on an event that will be decided in the future, usually these bets are based on an end-of-season result.

Futures bets are usually associated with large payouts due to the uncertainty of time.

These markets are constantly changing, meaning if you bet on the Leafs to win the Stanley Cup in September, it is very likely these odds will be different once the playoffs start.

    Example:

Toronto Raptors to win 2022 championship

Same Game Parlays

Same game parlays allow you to combine multiple bets from one game into a single parlay for an even bigger win. The odds in this case are calculated based on an algorithm since many of these individual bets within a game can rely on each other, so make sure to check your return prior to placing the bet.

Placing one of these bets follows the same process as alternative player overs, however instead of just selecting one bet, you would select multiple bets (Remember: Every one of these bets must hit for the parlay to cash)

Once these markets are selected and in your betslip, you will see the accumulator window at the top of the slip. There you will input your wager amount and confirm that you are satisfied with the return before placing your bet.

Teasers

A teaser bet is a parlay bet where you adjust the lines in your teams favour and then combine these into a parlay. Bettors traditionally feel more confident in their picks in teasers since each bet is now statistically favourited to happen

This type of bet is commonly used for the NFL to move the lines past those key NFL win numbers of 3, 6 and 7 points.

Example:

Dallas Cowboys (+6) vs New York Giants

Buffalo Bills (-3) at New England Patriots

If you like these bets but are not completely confident that either team will cover the set spread, you could tease the parlay to adjust the lines to:

Dallas Cowboys (+12) vs New York Giants

Buffalo Bills (+3) vs New England Patriots

This would result in a more comfortable bet at lower odds

1X2 Betting (Win-Draw-Win)

A 1X2 bet is very popular in soccer and involves betting on the result of a match with three possible outcomes:

  1. Team 1 wins

  2. Both teams Draw

  3. Team 2 wins

Since you have the option here to bet on a draw, your bet would NOT BE A PUSH if the game is tied at the end of regulation. You will be compensated with higher odds for taking on the additional risk of their being 3 potential outcomes for this bet.
