One Perfect Record, Two Belts on the Line at UFC 328

The UFC returns to its original stomping grounds this weekend, with UFC 328 set for New Jersey. The Garden State should get a spectacle, too, with a pair of title fights headlining Saturday night’s card.

Closing out the night will be a middleweight bout between the undefeated champion Khamzat Chimaev, who is 9-0 in the UFC, and former champion Sean Strickland.

Chimaev will defend his belt for the first time after he won it in dominant fashion against Dricus du Plessis last August. Chimaev's undefeated record and multi-faceted routes to victory—with multiple wins by decision, submission, TKO, and knockout in his career—see him enter the octagon as a major favourite. The Chechen Wolf is -575 to win outright, and the judges aren't expected to factor in, either, with a stoppage inside 25 minutes at -230 (versus +160 for a decision).

Strickland, a +405 underdog, had a short-lived stint as the division's champion but lost the belt at the first defense in a split decision against du Plessis. A year later, he lost a unanimous decision in a rematch with the South African fighter, but an impressive win against Anthony Hernandez in February put him back in the contention picture and, on Saturday, into the octagon against one of the sport’s most fearsome fighters.

Ahead of the middleweight title fight, Joshua Van will put his flyweight championship on the line for the first time as he faces Tatsuro Taira.

Van rides a six-fight win streak into the weekend, with the most recent triumph seeing him take the belt after then-champion Alexandre Pantoja suffered an arm injury inside the first minute of their title bout. Though Van will enter the octagon as the flyweight champion, he won't do so as the favourite, instead heading into the fight as a +135 underdog.

The challenger, Taira, is a -160 favourite to win the flyweight championship in his 10th UFC bout. At 8-1, the Japanese fighter has had a near-flawless start to his career in the promotion, with the only loss coming in a split decision against former title challenger Brandon Royval. After consecutive wins, including a second-round TKO of long-time flyweight champ Brandon Moreno, he’ll get his first shot at the belt.
