NFL Week 1 Recap & Game Highlights
The NFL’s triumphant return came with the high-wire drama we’ve come to expect, from a barn burner in Philadelphia on Thursday night, to a comeback for the ages in Western New York.
A trio of NFL odds underdogs won outright, while several more favourites were pushed to the wire. BET99 has your NFL weekend recap, bookended by the three biggest games from Week 1 and looking ahead to Week 2.
NFL Week 1 Recap & Game Highlights
Eagles 24 Cowboys 20 (Dallas +8)
The season kicked off with a tale of two halves, with the Cowboys and Eagles trading punches for the opening 30 minutes in Philadelphia before a single field goal found the board in the second half. The Eagles will be just fine; if Dallas can sustain that defensive performance, it can figure into the NFC East picture with the champs and the Commanders.
Chargers 27 Chiefs 21 (L.A. +3)
Friday night lights in Brazil featured a stunning performance out of the ever-promising Justin Herbert, while the Chiefs coughed up their latest blah offensive showing. Kansas City has earned a long leash, but at some point, it might cost itself forcing Patrick Mahomes to play point guard – and not superman, like his AFC peers.
Bills 41 Ravens 40 (Buffalo +1)
The two most prominent examples of AFC superheroes put on a show for the ages on Sunday night in Buffalo, as Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen dueled to the end. The two most recent MVPs combined for seven total touchdowns in a matchup that should see a sequel come January.
Vikings 27 Bears 24 (Minnesota -1)
JJ McCarthy’s NFL debut got off to a nightmarish start, but the former Michigan man settled in by the fourth quarter to help lead his team to a win. For the Bears, it sure looked like the same Caleb Williams once Ben Johnson’s scripted plays ran their course.
NFL Week 1 Power Rankings
1. Buffalo Bills
On the winning end of a wild Sunday nighter, Josh Allen and co. made a loud statement.
2. Baltimore Ravens
They may have left Buffalo with a sour taste, but for 55 minutes we saw an AFC bully remind the league what a Lamar Jackson-Derrick Henry duo can do.
3. Philadelphia Eagles
It was far from perfect, but Philly’s opening-night triumph was true to its strengths – a varied offense and a deep front seven – and weakness – a highly suspect secondary.
4. Green Bay Packers
Despite Micah Parsons’ limited role, the Packers dominated Detroit on both sides of the ball.
5. Kansas City Chiefs
Patrick Mahomes and a dynastic stretch of seasons is doing some heavy lifting here, with a middling offense rearing its ugly head yet again in Brazil.
6. L.A. Chargers
Second-season syndrome has almost always meant great things for Jim Harbaugh-coached teams, and if Week 1 was any indication, the Bolts will prove the rule in 2025.
7. Denver Broncos
It wasn’t a particularly impressive performance in Week 1, but faith in Sean Payton’s offense to catch up with Denver’s defense sees the Broncos round out a divisional trio in the top 10.
8. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Baker did what Baker does as the Bucs snuck out of Atlanta with a divisional win that could come up huge by season’s end.
9. Washington Commanders
It wasn’t flashy, but efficient offense and suffocating a lifeless opponent is a bright enough start for last year’s NFC runners-up.
10. Detroit Lions
It was a schematic nightmare on both sides for a team starting fresh with two coordinators, but the Lions’ infrastructure has earned plenty of faith over the last several seasons.
